The Artists

James Bentley was born in Montreal, Canada and studied Illustration and Design at Dawson College in his native town. He then attended the Illustration Academy in Liberty Missouri where he further refined his art.

James Bentley has won a number of awards for his work including from Communications Arts, The Society of Illustrators of New York, Applied Arts and Info Press.
One of his most valued awards is “The Joseph Morgan Henninger Award-Best of Show” given by the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles.

James’s focus is not on creating a literal reorientation but rather on reacting to what is in front of him. The outward appearance of the subject may be different from the reality that he sees and feels. “It’s hovering around the appearance and trying to catch the gaze, the presence or intensity, the nuance that makes a person come alive. That is what interests me and that is what I paint.”

In 2008 and 2009 his work was exhibited at the Campbell House Museum in Toronto Canada.
