Christine Karam
From an early age, Christine has expressed herself through art. After exploring various media, she eventually found her niche in oil painting. Drawing inspiration from nature, she is passionate about using colour and organic shapes to convey her perception of the chosen subject, thereby infusing her work with emotion. Mostly self-taught, Christine currently paints in oils and watercolour. Her artistic practice also includes drawing in ink.
Artist’s statement
When I look at the world around me, I see shapes, complex forms, and textures. I see the way colours dance in the changing light. These experiences evoke emotions that drive me to paint, to capture what I feel, and share it through my work.
The characteristics of oils, such as texture and predictability, allow me complete control over the medium to achieve a desired effect. In contrast, watercolours force me to relinquish some of the control to the medium and embrace the spontaneity of the result. I always strive to use these attributes to convey the emotional response my subjects, be they seen or imagined, elicit in me and thereby connect with the viewer.
