Michèle Tougas

She is an accomplished watercolour artist based in Montreal whose works are filled with light, charm, and life. She has been a member of AAL for eleven years and has exhibited nationally for two consecutive years with the prestigious Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour.
She had to stop her art studies to raise four young children. Largely self-taught, she studied for a time with the renowned Maine watercolorist, Carol Sebold.
Michèle has successfully staged six solo shows, participated in several judged exhibitions, and won awards, including the People's Choice Award. She has exhibited in numerous galleries and other venues in Montreal, including Château Ramezay, Galerie Arte Bella, the historic Beaver Club, the Tudor Room at Ogilvy, and many others in the West Island. Her works are held in several private collections in Canada, the United States, and England.
Although Michèle is adept at working with other media and enjoys experimenting, her first love is watercolor, which she adores for its magical quality as well as its humbling lessons. It offers a wealth of possibilities as water and pigments mix, spread, and seep into the paper, choosing their own path and escaping all control, thus creating unexpected surprises of color and luminosity.
The dynamic nature of the medium requires the artist to work quickly and instinctively, allowing the nature of art to reign freely. Michèle often works from her imagination, and it is the people and places she observes during her many travels that inspire her.
