Marlene Smyth

 

Born in Montreal, Marlene began painting as a child. She created her elementary school projects using painting and drawing. She studied fine arts at Dawson College and Loyola College.

A prolific acrylic and mixed-media artist, she has spent more than two decades creating from her home studio.  Rather than staying in one style, she moves through creative waves – from luminous landscapes and birch forests to abstract musicians, playful subjects, and vibrant still lifes of fruits and vegetables. 

Her work carries a joyful palette and sometimes a hint of gold that brings warmth and light to the piece.  Armed with color, texture, and imagination, her vision and spontaneity inspire her strong sense of composition as she uses acrylics, modeling paste, and other grounds to create.

Exhibiting several times a year and sharing her work through paintings, matted pieces, and art cards, she paints with intention, texture, and patience, always with music in the background and a cup of tea close at hand.
